Review
With the possible exception of Dr. Tim LaHaye, no other Bible commentator has informed my own writing as much as that of John MacArthur. I find myself turning to him again and again.-Jerry B. Jenkins, author of The Left Behind seriesGod promised “a blessing” to those who read the book of Revelation (1:3). It is not possible to be blessed by just reading unless you understand it. That is where John MacArthur’s gift of simplifying complex truth makes this such a timely and meaningful book. You will be blessed, edified, and inspired as you read this practical and true-to-the-Scripture commentary on the last great prophecy in the Bible.-Tim LaHaye, author of The Left Behind seriesThorough, accurate and straight-forward. It’s the way my friend, John MacArthur, preaches, teaches, and writes. I’m grateful for the way John’s literal interpretation of Revelation shines bright and buoyant hope onto the dark and dismal age in which we live. -Joni Eareckson Tada, The JAF International Disability Center

The end of the world is coming. From roadside signs to science fiction films, this slogan underscores our society’s nervous fascination with the future. Whether it’s a giant asteroid, a worldwide plague, or some other global catastrophe, the end of the world is a terrifying prospect—at least for those who have no idea what it will be like. For Christians, however, the end of the world should be anything but dreadful. In fact, it should be something we actually look forward to. Why? Because God has told us how the world will end. And He has assured us that the end of this age will mark the beginning of a new, glorious one in which we will serve and worship Him in sinless perfection. Our eternal hope, as believers, is intimately tied to the end of this world. All of this is laid out in the book of Revelation. Not only is Revelation the inspired Word of God, it is also the only New Testament book that includes a promised spiritual blessing for those who study and apply its message. As such, it is an essential part of every Christian’s devotional life. Those who ignore Revelation deprive themselves of a rich treasure of divine truth, and the promised blessings that come from understanding that truth. Join John MacArthur as he explains the book of Revelation in a way that is both doctrinally precise and intensely practical.

I know that since the beginning of time people have thought it was the end times. So it would be easy to discount or ignore all the "signs" all around us these days. Reading Revelation is like going into a foreign country and trying to understand the road, street and merchant signs leading the way throughout the cities. Some of the signs are pretty standard and understandable, while others have you scratching your head, looking through the tourist/language dictionary and asking a citizen to help you. Well, John MacArthur is the "citizen" and this book is the dictionary. What's amazing is that you perk up and thinks thoughts like "I didn't know that", "wow, it's like reading the headlines today", "that makes perfect sense", "goodness, I will need to spend more time looking through the OT and NT scripture references". and "I love the history lessons embedded through it all". This is not a elementary age study...John doesn't insult his readers with the watered down, tickle the ears, new age nonsense that so many are peddling these days. The book of Revelation has a very serious message...that includes severe warnings and a blessed hope for those who are serious about learning the Truth found in God's last book to us. John MacArthur treats it with the respect it deserves. .
Many Christians view the book of Revelation as mystifying symbolism and striking imagery and may be bewildered by it. For this reason, many believers and church leaders avoid serious study of the book. Some may actually dread the end of time as we know it, but for Christians, the end of the world should be anything but dreadful. It should be something we actually look forward to, because God has told us how it will end. The end of this age will mark the beginning of a new, glorious one in which we will serve and worship Him in sinless perfection. All of this is laid out in the book of Revelation - the only New Testament book that includes a promised spiritual blessing for those who study and apply its message. It should be an essential part of every Christian's devotional life. After all, Revelation promises blessings to those who read it and adhere to its message.John Macarthur explains the book of Revelation in a way that is both doctrinally precise and intensely practical. He does an excellent work in explaining end times based on Scripture and the study of what God has revealed. However, there are still many mysteries man cannot know, and that is when we must leave it in God's hands and be grateful for what He has revealed. Lack of understanding may bring fear, but Macarthur takes the reins and connects the dots of what is revealed in a most understandable manner - without the pretentiousness of having ALL the answers. Macarthur's explains the book of Revelation in such a manner that satisfies the reader's desire for deeper understanding of end times.I give "Because the Time is Near" by John Macarthur a 5-star review.Review by: Rita Kroon, author of "Discover God through His Attributes," "Praying the Scriptures," and "Womanhood: Becoming a Woman of Virtue" (women's Bible study).
I just finished the book last night. For someone searching for help in interpreting the Bible, MacArthur is at the top. To have a book dedicated solely to Revelation is a blessing! In this book, MacArthur explains each passage of Revelation and, in the process, takes away the frightening sounds and visions it conjures up in our minds and brings great relief and joy to believers. This is the third book I have read of MacArthur's, whom I just discovered. I am going now to look for another of his books.Truly a remarkable book. A must-read for both believers and nonbelievers -- but especially unbelievers!
Totalmente recomendado.
I read this book along with another commentary to study revelation, this book was well worth the money, MacArthur does a great job explaining the symbolism in revelation I.e. the dragon, woman with 12 stars, the beast etc,. MacArthur tackles this project from a premillennialism, pre trib, futuristic, literal point of view. Although some disagree on end time studies the literal point of view ( which MacArthur uses) explains away a lot of the disagreement and controversy surrounding the book of revelation. Highly recommend!
This study of Revelation was an excellent resource. I didn't find it to be sensationalistic or mystical. Instead it was a straight and sober, reverent study of a Bible book that I have come to expect from John MacArthur. If your goal is to be entertained in the way that the History channel tries to present the Bible, and especially end-time theology, this is not the book for you. If your goal is to study Revelation section, by section, while having all of the symbols and cross-references to the old testament explained...you will thoroughly enjoy this book. I just want to point out that I thought John MacArthur spent a little more time than normal explaining various denominational interpretations of certain key passages of the book. He is normally very unapologetic about his theology (and I like that), but in this case he took a more inclusive tone. He still firmly states where he stands, but he explains where some of the big interpretative disagreements are, and the alternatives, without a lot of judgement.
